The Genie Company announced two new wall-mounted garage door openers that reduce noise and add space in residential garages.

“We are excited to launch this first-of-a-kind product for Genie,” Dave Harnish, Genie

product manager, says. “The wall mount design gives homeowners a new way to view their garages. By cleaning up the ceiling, they can either enjoy the open space view or use it for an additional storage area.”

With designs that eliminate the ceiling rail of traditional garage openers, the Model 6170 and 6070 combine a clean look with a practical setup. Instead of hanging on the ceiling, the wall-mount openers connect to the spring bar or tube from the side. When activated, the opener turns the bar or tube from its location on the wall. With 24-volt DC motors, the openers can raise doors up to 84 inches on standard, vertical, or high lift.

“Because of its compact design, Genie wall mount openers take up minimum side room and consume significantly less wall space, which is a big plus in garages where space between the garage door and side wall is limited,” Harnish says. “The rail-less design is cleaner and less cumbersome to help the garage be viewed as a true extension of the home.”

Each product has a new wireless wall station, so both display a flashing blue LED light for safety and also can delay closing for up to 30 seconds--no more trying to run and jump over laser sensors before the door closes on you.

The lack of ceiling rails reduce the noise and vibrations not only in the garages, but also in the rooms above: Traditional openers introduce disturbances to upstairs neighbors through their positioning. Besides reducing the noise created by opening or closing a door, the device itself is quiet as well, the manufacturer says. “Since many mechanical parts of common opener rails are eliminated, noise is naturally reduced.”

Genie adds that safety is at the forefront of the openers’ designs: Through its Internal Slack Cable Detection feature, which cannot be bypassed, the opener pulses the door at the beginning of its close. The feature checks for tension, and If someone was caught in the path of the door, it would detect that, automatically stopping the door. The company says that this eliminates the need for an external detection system. Safety features also include a Bluetooth activated light that remains on for at least four minutes and an auto locking system with a deadbolt that decreases the chance of a forced entry.

If homeowners want a more high-tech experience, they can go with the Model 6170, which is integrated with the Aladdin Connect smart controller and battery backup. The opener is compatible with Amazon Alexa, Google Home Assistant, and Yomoni, and it allows users to use an app to monitor and control their garage door remotely at any time.
