Machines feature short cycle times and honeycomb drums for a gentle wash

Miele has introduced to the North American market an updated portfolio of laundry appliances called Little Giants.

“With the new generation of Little Giants, the cleaning and drying of your textiles is simple, convenient, and time-saving,” the company says. “Tailored special programs wash and dry both thoroughly and gently, and thanks to their compact dimensions, the new machines are ideal for installation in small rooms.”

The redesigned line of appliances is available in two stackable, front-load models of washers and dryers, the Miele Performance and Miele Performance Plus. If stacked, the appliances take up 60 by 73 inches of floor space.

While the high-capacity Performance washer can hold up to 15 pounds of wash, the Performance Plus has three possible drum sizes with capacities ranging from 13 pounds to 18 pounds. The Plus also features 32 language options and a full-color touch display. Both dryers have an approximately 15 pound capacity. Consumers can choose between lotus white and stainless steel colors.

“Compared with the previous generation, the new machines require significantly less electricity, water, and time,” the company says. “The washer now features a 49 minute express cycle amongst the 50 Plus programs available.”

It takes 86 minutes to wash and dry a standard load, according to the company. Both washers use interval spinning that  extracts more water in order to reduce drying time, and the Performance model is able to dry a load in 37 minutes.

“The new Little Giants achieve top-notch washing and drying results in combination with short program cycles, in part to a newly improved and redesigned Honeycomb drum with additional perforations in the drum rear panel,” the company says.

Perhaps one of the buzziest features of the new line, the washers’ honeycomb structure creates a film of water between the drum and the laundry to minimize potential damage. The dryers feature the honeycomb structure as well, which the company says dries the clothing gently.

With the newly designed touch display, users can choose from programmed settings, including the 49-minute Express Cycle. Machines can also automatically adjust water and energy levels in response to the load size, and the delay-start function enables users to set a start time up to 24 hours later. Because the appliances are WiFi-compatible, users can control and monitor the laundry via the Miele mobile app.

Due to its corrosion-proof stainless steel and grease-resistant silicone components, the company says that the appliances are designed to have long life cycles. They also are housed in an enamel that resists scratches, acid damage, and corrosion. Before they were approved for production, the machines passed strain and endurance tests that simulated 30,000 hours of operation to ensure that the appliances could withstand years of use.
