Perlick has released a 30-inch refrigerator in an expansion of its line of full-size cooling products, including freezers and wine reserves.

“Why do fine grocers store and display fresh ingredients like meats, seafood and produce separately at different temperatures and conditions?” the company asks. “It’s because leafy greens need cool, humid conditions to stay crisp, while halibut requires storage in a cold, dry place. Perlick brings that same concept to the luxury home refrigerator, in a revolutionary new 30-inch wide column design.”

With four independent user-set zones, the full-size refrigerator allows users to match the temperature, humidity, and air quality needed to best preserve the food in each section, be it produce, meat, or seafood. The electronically monitored appliance can self-maintain the set temperature within one degree Fahrenheit. Using a dual filtration system, the produce drawer reduces odors through a carbon filter and removes ethylene gas, which can speed up ripening, through an ethylene filter. The produce drawer, which is tipped to position produce upright to avoid damage, can also electronically monitor its own humidity levels as well.

“As produce ages and loses water content, the unit has the intelligence to push moisture back into the compartment to maintain the humidity necessary to prolong the lifespan of leafy greens and other wilt-prone produce,” the company says.

With an extra 6 inches more than the original 24-inch model, the column refrigerator boasts 16.6 cubic feet of storage space with a slide-in marinating pan, a two-tiered deli display with adjustable shelves, and a produce drawer. A touch-screen, which fades to black when not in use, allows users to customize temperature preferences or access presets to create a food-friendly environment.

“Perlick has spent a century designing, engineering and manufacturing front-of-house wine reserves for fine bars, restaurants and large venues around the world,” said Jeff Wimberly, vice president of residential sales. “When designing the 30-inch refrigerator we used that knowledge to ensure home chefs could store their fresh ingredients with the same care and precision as prized wine collections.”

The refrigerator is built from easy-to-clean commercial-grade stainless steel and glass. Inspired by refrigerated cases of fine delicatessens and boucheries, the company chose large glass windows to showcase a consumer’s groceries. For the steel, designers choose two finishes: classic stainless steel for the upper-half and slate-black stainless steel for the lower-half to better showcase the food’s colors with the interior, LED lights. The black background creates contrast that makes the food stand out. The shelves are made from frameless, spill-proof glass, and the lighting temperature is set to a neutral hue with a touch of warmth that allows users to read labels clearly.

But the refrigerator is not just about aesthetics: It is eco-friendly, customizable, and easy to repair, according to the company. It uses the R600a refrigerant that has a low environmental impact, is non-toxic, and is more environmentally-friendly than other kinds. Because of the refrigerator's integrated design, users can use custom paneling and hardware with the appliance. And if the refrigerator needs maintenance, the company says the unit is optimized for service and repair to avoid unnecessary cost.

“In the unlikely event that a refrigeration problem occurs, Perlick’s refrigeration deck is simply removed and replaced in just minutes,” says Wimberly. This is an industry exclusive that eliminates the need to uninstall the unit or make other more intrusive repairs on the job.”
