Valencia, Spain—The international tile world turned its attention to Spain recently as the industry held its 35th annual Cevisama exhibition of ceramics and porcelain. This year, oxidized metal looks, concrete, and textiles stole the show.

One of two important European tile shows, Cevisama brings together about 721 exhibitors in more than 1 million square feet of exhibit space. This year, the Spanish tile industry was in a celebratory mood. At a press conference, ASCER—the Spanish tile trade association—reported that its industry saw a 7.1 percent year-over-year increase in 2016 as well as a 4.8 percent increase in exports, including to the United States, the Spanish industry’s second most important market.

What’s hot this year? While the industry offers a broad range of styles, looks, and technical innovation, some product trends rose above the rest, such as gray color scale, subtle textures, advanced glazes, textile looks, and metallic products.
