Cambria to Launch Book-Matching Quartz Surfacing

Cambria Bookmatched Quartz Surfacing

Quartz surfacing brand Cambria is set to release a new collection of products with book-matched veining, the use of two mirror-image slabs, set side by side on the same surface like the pages of an open book.

“Regardless of your preference in pattern, the mirroring in Cambria’s book-matched slabs make a high-impact visual statement, dramatizing the aesthetics of Cambria’s natural quartz, and further expanding design opportunities,” says Arik Tendler, chief sales officer for the Minneapolis, Minn.-based company.

Book-matching is often used in high-end custom cabinetmaking, but Cambria is introducing the option for its quartz slabs. A technique that Cambria call a fusion of art and design, bookmatching is the perfect way to showcase the natural beauty of the quartz surfacing and transforms it into a powerful statement-making piece, the company says.

Available in nine designs in both matte and high-gloss finishes, the bookmatched offerings are ideal for residential applications, such as wall

cladding, shower and fireplace surrounds, backsplashes, and islands. The pre-matched slabs and precise vein matching enable stunning visual effects, Cambria says, adding that the technique is bold and breathtaking with a pleasingly symmetrical effect making the grain stand out and the space feel custom and elevated.

Bookmatching creates the kind of visual impact that can define the most ambitious projects, including the Omni Viking Lakes Hotel, a newly opened four-star, mixed-use property in suburban Minnesota, Cambria explains. For the project, the design team sought ways to implement a bold American Nordic theme while creating a distinctive experience in each type of space.

“The showpiece in our purple noir suite is the Brittanicca Gold fireplace surround,” says Bridget Hale, senior interior designer at ESG Architecture and Design. “It’s really sculptural. We also carry that into the suite bath, using a bookmatch that aligns the veins, and it really adds a beautiful backdrop to the freestanding tub.”

Bookmatched slabs are available to order through Cambria Customer Care at 1-866-CAMBRIA with an estimated 14-day lead time, depending on the order. The bookmatched slabs must be purchased in quantities of two and are available in jumbo slabs only.

Now in its 20th year, Cambria has recently introduced a variety of new products and initiatives, including a thin, 6-millimeter and lightweight quartz collection designed for weight-sensitive applications in residential or commercial projects. The brand also released 14 new surfacing designs in collaboration with noted architecture and design firm Gensler.

“We are thrilled to work with the Gensler team on this first-of-its-kind product and are honored they chose Cambria as a surface partner for this collaboration,” Summer Kath, Cambria executive vice president of product development, said in a statement announcing the release. “What we built together truly reflects the talent that Gensler cultivates, and we cannot wait to meaningfully expand our footprint within the architecture and design communities.”

The Coordinates Collection came from a two year long design process between the two companies.
