California-based lighting brand Cerno Group has unveiled a new collection that celebrates wood, leather, and brass.
“With Penna, Cerno wanted to celebrate and expose the playful use of materials through clever design applications, instead of the common need to hide fasteners and connections,” the Irvine, Calif.-based company says in a release announcing the launch.
The Penna Collection is comprised of a single piece of solid walnut wood with brass hardware details, and a leather suspension strap, which create a simple, yet highly stylish, and contemporary fixture, the company says.
“When designing Penna, I wanted to illuminate the wood body of the fixture to showcase the grain with a continuous linear light source that would deliver diffuse ample light without point sources,” says designer and Cerno co-founder Nick Sheridan. “The way the sloped wood body emulates the leather strapping used in the fixture’s suspension creates harmony and balance in the fixture’s silhouette.”
Cerno, which is celebrating its 10-year anniversary this year, says Penna’s precise detailing and execution result in a light fixture with a largely utilitarian composition but with an unapologetic sense of elegance and sophistication.
The Penna collection consists of a pendant fixture and a wall sconce and can be used in a wide variety of applications. “The Penna pendant, as is the case with many of Cerno’s linear pendants, works well over kitchen islands, dining room tables, and in conference rooms,” the company says. “Penna is well suited for an office setting above a desk, or similarly throughout an open plan office as general illumination.”
The collection is available in natural and dark stained walnut and in two sizes: 40 inchs and 64 inches. Prices range from $650 to $1,950.
