Last week, CertainTeed Gypsum presented four North American construction projects with the North American Trophy Award for innovative and high-performance use of their gypsum products.

The biannual industry event awards North American projects for excellence in their use of gypsum products from Certainteed, a Saint-Gobain company. All four of the North American overall winners will move on to compete at the Saint-Gobain’s International Trophy Event in March.

Sixteen nominees from the U.S. and Canada were judged on their uses of the manufacturer’s gypsum products in a variety of categories, including drywall, plaster, innovation and sustainability, residential, non-residential, and gypsum ceilings. The diverse entries included homes, multi-family high rises, student housing, churches, a convention center, and more.

Two award-winners from the U.S. include a home by Michael’s Homes in Murfreesboro, Tenn., and cathedral by Raleigh, N.C.-based Sears Contract, Inc. The two Canadian winners are a church by Smith Brothers Contracting Corp., and an athletic center from DonMor Drywall, both based in Ontario. See photos and project details in the slideshow below.

At the spring International Trophy Event, 14 winners will be chosen in various categories. The top Grand Prix Award will go to one project that “exemplifies technical gypsum superiority with stunning visual appeals,” CertainTeed says. Though the North American competition requires drywall products to be from CertainTeed, international participants can use products from any of Saint-Gobain’s five global gypsum brands.
