Dutch Tile Maker Mosa Releases Ocean-Inspired Artisanal Wall Collection

Mosa Classics Tide series glossy tile

Dutch tile maker Mosa has debuted a new contemporary ceramic wall tile series made with artisanal-glazing techniques.

Uneven glazing techniques and colors mimic the variations in the sea

Dutch tile maker Mosa has debuted a new contemporary ceramic wall tile series made with artisanal-glazing techniques.

Designed to create a classic subway tile brick look with a glossy finish, Classics Tide is the latest offering in the Classics collection by Mosa.

“Classics is formed by Mosa series that have already proven themselves, Classics Kho Liang Ie Collection, Classics Tide and Classics Trocadero,” the over 130-year-old company says. “[Classics] Tide brings a touch of the classic to a contemporary look by using an artisanal-style glaze technique and guarantees truly rich and dynamic interiors.”

Classics Tide Series Wall Tile Subway Style Blues

Molten-glass glazed tiles with sea-inspired texture and depth

Unlike other Mosa styles, which tend to lean on flat-surface designs, the new collection embraces textures and colors inspired by the sea, according to the manufacturer. Because the molten-glass glaze is unevenly poured in an irregular flow, the Classics Tide tiles feature darker and lighter areas that add depth to the surface. The company says this effect creates “a vibrant warmth and textural appeal that is usually associated with handmade tile.” Builders should expect variations due to this technique as no two tiles are the same, and because the product is natural, shade variation also will occur.

“Classics Tide has an intentionally varied surface texture,” the company says. “This very subtle movement and variation in the bisque mimics a hand-pressed clay body, allowing the glaze to pool and ebb as it flows over the tile.”

A textured wall tile suited for residential and commercial projects

Measuring 4 by 8 inches, the tile is suited for both residential and commercial projects, including bathroom spaces, according to the company. Designers can style the subway tile collection vertically or horizontally, offset or linear, or in a chevron pattern.

“Mosa is best known for its almost scientifically precise nuance within the cool and warm neutrals range, but this collection soars creatively with painterly colors achieved with hard-candy-style glazes,” the company says. “The Classics Tide capsule series consists of eight soft, rich, coastal-inspired colors.” Builders can choose from the following colors: serene white, blush, sage, blue mist, fog grey, charcoal grey, rust, and bone, a beige.

A green tile collection from a sustainable company

Because of its commitment to sustainability, Mosa says almost its entire programme is rated Cradle to Cradle silver certified and that the Classics Tide collection is a leading example. The company claims it is the first and only manufacturer of Cradle-to-Cradle certified ceramic tile. Five criteria in Mosa’s sustainability plan are to employ “pure raw materials, great recycling potential, low energy consumption, environmentally-friendly water management, and good terms and conditions of employment.”

The collection launched in late April and is now available globally. Consumers can view the tile collection on Mosa’s site and use its 3D tool to see close-to-life details or create patterns on the site’s Pattern Generator.
