Glass Design Introduces New Washstand by International Designer Karim Rashid

Italian bath products manufacturer Glass Design has collaborated on a new washstand product with international designer star Karim Rashid.

“Comprising a basin that boasts a spectacular visual effect, [the Lap Plus washstand] is the fruit of the latest collaboration between Karim Rashid and represents a bathroom/cloakroom design solution which is minimalist yet highly functional,” the company says. “Concentric circles ripple out in ellipse formation echoing the oval lines of the basin and creating a pure optional illusion, a dynamic design guaranteed to instantaneously capture the attention.”

Glass Design says the basin is fashioned from Vetrofreddo, an innovative company-patented material that is composed of glass pigments and resins. Measuring 28 inches wide, 35 inches tall, 16.5 inches wide, the washstand is fabricated from 304 stainless steel and painted with a Matt Black finish. It also features adjustable feet and comes with towel holder and integrated shelf.

“TheMonochrome combinations (white on black or black on white) graphically highlight the profile of the basin, resulting in an elegant piece suitable for all types of environment, compact or grandiose, residential or commercial,” the company says.

Also available with a matching mirror and wall-shelf in painted steel, Lap Plus is the latest collaboration between Glass Design and the New York City-based Rashid. The award-winning designer has worked with a wide range of brands in the architecture and design space, including lighting for BoConcept, Fontana Arte, Artemide, and Studio Italia, and bath products for Saturn Bathroom, Coway (south Korea), Relax Design, Ceramica Cielo, and Saturn Bath.

“Design is about the betterment of our lives poetically, aesthetically, experientially, sensorially, and emotionally,” Rashid has said. “My real desire is to see people live in the modus of our time, to participate in the contemporary world, and to release themselves from nostalgia, antiquated traditions, old rituals, kitsch and the meaningless.”
