Kohler Debuts Voice-Activated Smart Faucet

Setra Faucet by Kohler

Setra helps home cooks navigate the kitchen while minimizing mess.

Hands-free Setra will send homeowners alerts to unusual water activity via Kohler app

Kohler says its new smart kitchen faucet helps home cooks navigate the kitchen while minimizing mess.

Using the Kohler Konnect hands-free technology, homeowners can control the Setra Kitchen Faucet with just their voice, streamlining the cooking and clean-up process. The company says users can turn the faucet on and off, pour to specific measurements, or activate presets. The minimum amount the faucet can dispense at a time is 8 ounces, and the accuracy depends on the home’s water pressure and the flow rate.

“As technology integrates more fully into our lives, it’s important to develop ways that it can help make things we do every day more comfortable and enjoyable,” Larry Yuen, group president, kitchen and bath at Kohler, says. “Kohler applies our industry heritage and passion for innovation to provide specific solutions in the kitchen and bathroom, such as smart kitchen faucets that offer hands-free experiences, unmatched sound quality for music in the shower, or a range of innovative intelligent toilets that enhance your comfort in the bathroom.”

The smart faucet is integrated with the Kohler app, allowing users to monitor their water usage and receive notifications through its water sensors if any activity is unusual. If a child left the water running or a cat bumped the faucet on, the app will let homeowners know the water is flowing.

For even more hands-free functionality, the faucet features an AC-powered motion sensor that turns the sink on when activated and off when it stops detecting movement.

Though the hallmark of the faucet is its voice-command capabilities, Kohler also designed the physical touchpoints to enhance the experience and increase functionality.

“Setra also offers many practical functions that make kitchen chores easier,” the company says. “The dual function pull-down spray head has convenient touch control that allows the user to choose between regular stream and Sweep spray, a wide blade of water that sweeps dishes and sink clean.”

Other features include a magnetic docking system to secure the spray head and a single-lever handle that gives users the ability to change water temperature with one hand. With the faucet’s easy-to-maneuver design and high-arch swing spout, users can position the faucet head in all directions and fill taller-than-average pots. The company says the ceramic disk valves are built to last and the faucet’s mineral-resistant spray face reduces build-up that would normally accumulate overtime. Instead, users can easily clean the faucet with a damp towel.

Setra, which boasts a 1.5-gallons-per-minute flow rate, comes in three finishes: polished chrome, stainless steel, and matte black. It can be installed in one-, two-, three-, or four-holed sink and is compatible with Google Home, Alexa, and Apple Home Kit. Voice-activation requires password-protected WiFi. Siri can be used in limited capacity.
