LP Building Products Debuts New LP FlameBlock I-Joist

LP Building Products has a FlameBlock I-joist that gives builders a new option to satisfy the latest “Fire Protection of Floors” section of the 2012 International Residential Code (R501.3).

Nashville, Tenn.-based LP Building Products has a FlameBlock I-joist that gives builders a new option to satisfy the latest “Fire Protection of Floors” section of the 2012 International Residential Code (R501.3).

The product combines an LP SolidStart I-joist with a web made from the company’s FlameBlock OSB, a product that has a non-combustible Pyrotite coating to slow the effects of heat and flames.

“From architects to builders, the building industry is faced with adapting to new fire codes, and the LP FlameBlock I-Joist meets both the 2012 and 2015 IRC codes,” Lisa Reese, a marketing associate at the company, says. “Moreover, this new product brings the demonstrated performance of LP FlameBlock to the line of LP SolidStart products to further enhance the performance and innovation that builders and homeowners have come to expect from LP.”

The product fits standard joist hangers, and its 2½-inch-wide flange offers easier handling and more nailing/glue surface. Additionally, the thicker web makes floors feel firmer, Reese says.
