New appliance manufacturer Thor Kitchen entered the market this month with a suite of appliances the company says combine the features of pro-style units with an affordable price point.
“Everyone wants a pro-style kitchen appliance, but not everyone can afford it,” says Kyle You, managing director of the California-based manufacturer. “This is where we come in. Our goal is to provide the same product at half the price or less.”
You says Thor is able to offer a full suite of pro-style kitchen appliances—range, refrigerator, hood, and dishwasher—for less than $5,000. “Up to this point they’ve always had a premium price,” he says, preventing some homeowners from having their dream kitchen. With Thor, “you get the power and performance of top-notch products at a practical price.”
Along with stainless steel finishes and high-quality construction, You says each appliance will offer a range of features that provide for a pro-chef-level experience. The 30-inch gas range (MSRP $1,599) includes a commercial-grade convection oven, heavy-duty continuous cast-iron grates, high-BTU burners, halogen lighting, automatic reignition, and a blue porcelain interior. The under-cabinet range hood ($399) has an anti-fingerprint finish, touch controls, and commercial-style stainless steel baffle filters. The 36-inch four-door refrigerator ($1,799) features counter-depth French doors with dual air-cooled circulation, a full-width chiller drawer, automatic ice maker, and LED lighting. The 24-inch dishwasher ($699) includes three spray arms, a multi-filter system to save water and energy, and a soil-sensing wash system. Each unit comes with a two-year warranty.
