Bringing Kitchens to Life

Kitchen Design Pros

In partnership with residential developer SYMBI Homes, PRODUCTS recently completed a high-performance demonstration project in Mt. Rainier, Md., a Washington, DC suburb.

The pilot project, a for-sale duplex, showcases a higher level of quality, innovation, and sustainability in home building.

SYMBI was fortunate to team up with the talented designers at Kitchen Design Pros (KDP), an online provider of custom and semi-custom, American-made quality cabinetry. KDP supplied cabinets for all four SYMBI Duplex One kitchens (one main kitchen and one in-law suite kitchenette in each unit). Highlights include:

  • KDP cabinet suppliers are certified sustainable by the Environmental Stewardship Program of the Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association to provide expert advice about sustainable options;
  • KDP provides a dedicated designer to support the project from concept through delivery and installation;
  • KDP offers a variety of cabinet lines to fit any style and budget, including the sleek modern style of the SYMBI interiors.

Product Innovation

After sharing some initial concept drawings from the SYMBI plans, the KDP cabinet designer met virtually with SYMBI CEO Nicole Tysvaer to review, modify and eventually finalize the layouts. The builder wanted a sleek, modern look of symmetry and clean lines. KDP shipped cabinet door samples to the job site, allowing Tysvaer to visualize the finishes in the space.

In addition to finding the right look, KDP also aligned with SYMBI’s commitment to sustainability, as their cabinets are American made from sustainably harvested timber and using low or no formaldehyde during manufacturing.

Performance

According to Tysvaer, the KDP team worked diligently to finalize each and every component. The KDP team “labored over all of the details” including extra-tall cabinets to maximize storage space with 9-foot ceilings, a concealed exhaust hood, open shelving, trash pull-outs, and much more, Tysvaer says. “They made sure our entire wish list was incorporated into the design.”
The results were well worth the effort. “In the end, we were over-the-moon happy with how everything came together,” she says. “With their help, we were able to bring to life our SYMBI gourmet kitchens—modern, beautiful, sustainable and functional. The full package!”

Tips from the Builder

Be sure to update the KDP team on any schedule changes. If delivery timeframes need to be adjusted, cabinets must be held at the manufacturer to avoid expensive storage fees by the shipping company.
Modern designs may seem simple, but the layouts of SYMBI kitchens actually involved myriad parts and pieces assembled together to create the sleek, flush look. Allow extra time and labor costs associated with getting the installation right the first time.
